Frank Lloyd Wright Grand Buffet
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was America's pioneer of modern architecture, whose influence on European modernists and generations of US architects has been incalculable. He broke with Victorian tradition about 1900 to create the Prairie Style, the origin of millions of modern American house designs. He brought Organic Architecture to fruition in the 1920s-30s, basing structures on natural forms and producing buildings -- like "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania and the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan -- that are at one with their outdoor environments. A brilliant designer of furniture, textiles, stained glass, and interior detail, he always presented his clients with a completely integrated concept, from the building itself right through to the light fixtures and the rug patterns.
Copeland Furniture is the exclusive licensee of Wright's furniture designs. Each piece of Frank Lloyd Wright® Furniture by Copeland is named after the house for which he designed it, and bears Wright’s signature, date of manufacture, and a unique serial number.
In the Frank Lloyd Wright Grand Buffet, which is taken from measurements of the built-in original at the Dana-Thomas House, the ideal of truly elegant hospitality is realized with the attention to function and detail Wright devoted to the entire house (famous for its long dining room that could seat forty!). Wright knew the classical tradition and the powerful constructionism of the Arts and Crafts movement, and brought them together in this piece with his inimitable originality of style. This freestanding adaptation is just under 88" from side to side, and provides ample storage in drawers, open bottle racks, and cabinets. The cantilevered upper shelf is sold separately and is equipped with stemware racks and recessed lighting. The Frank Lloyd Wright Grand Buffet is entirely constructed in hardwood, either quartersawn oak or cherry, using fine carpentry techniques. Each wood is available in a choice of 2 finishes, and the drawer and cabinet pulls can be ordered in different shapes and metal finishes.
