Frank Lloyd Wright Dana-Thomas Occasional Chair
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was America's pioneer of modern architecture, whose influence on European modernists and generations of US architects has been incalculable. He broke with Victorian tradition about 1900 to create the Prairie Style, the origin of millions of modern American house designs. He brought Organic Architecture to fruition in the 1920s-30s, basing structures on natural forms and producing buildings -- like "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania and the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan -- that are at one with their outdoor environments. A brilliant designer of furniture, textiles, stained glass, and interior detail, he always presented his clients with a completely integrated concept, from the building itself right through to the light fixtures and the rug patterns.
Copeland Furniture is the exclusive licensee of Wright's furniture designs. Each piece of Frank Lloyd Wright® Furniture by Copeland is named after the house for which he designed it, and bears Wright’s signature, date of manufacture, and a unique serial number.
The Dana Thomas Occasional Chair is a great example of Wright's version of the famous "Form follows function" motto of his mentor, Louis Sullivan. Wright altered that to "Form and function are one." The Dana Thomas house was specifically designed for its socialite owner's frequent artistic and cultural gatherings, and needed hospitable, durable, comfortable seating in the living spaces that would also resonate with the great house's sense of style. Quartersawn white oak is used to realize a modern lounge chair that infuses the structural Arts & Crafts style with more than a touch of grace, losing none of its solidity. The deep, tufted seat cushion may be ordered in either leather or fabric, the back pillow in fabric, in a wide range of colors. The Dana Thomas Occasional Chair is available in 2 finish colors.
