Frank Lloyd Wright Buffet
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was America's pioneer of modern architecture, whose influence on European modernists and generations of US architects has been incalculable. He broke with Victorian tradition about 1900 to create the Prairie Style, the origin of millions of modern American house designs. He brought Organic Architecture to fruition in the 1920s-30s, basing structures on natural forms and producing buildings -- like "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania and the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan -- that are at one with their outdoor environments. A brilliant designer of furniture, textiles, stained glass, and interior detail, he always presented his clients with a completely integrated concept, from the building itself right through to the light fixtures and the rug patterns.
Copeland Furniture is the exclusive licensee of Wright's furniture designs. Each piece of Frank Lloyd Wright® Furniture by Copeland is named after the house for which he designed it, and bears Wright’s signature, date of manufacture, and a unique serial number.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Buffet design has been taken from measurements of the original, 1902 built-in buffet at the Dana-Thomas House, a house remarkable then and now for its long dining room that can seat forty. This free-standing adaptation shares the aesthetic of elegant hospitality that Wright sought for his socialite client, Susan Dana, on a more manageable scale! As a rising young architect, he understood the classical traditions and the powerful constructionism of the Arts and Crafts movement well, and married them seamlessly into a unique design. This modern buffet is just under 6' from side to side, and has ample storage in drawers, flat drawers, and cabinets. The Frank Lloyd Wright Buffet is entirely constructed in hardwood, either quartersawn oak or cherry, using fine carpentry techniques. Each wood is available in a choice of 2 finishes, and the drawer and cabinet pulls can be ordered in different shapes and metal finishes.
