Frank Lloyd Wright Boynton Arm Chair

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was America's pioneer of modern architecture, whose influence on European modernists and generations of US architects has been incalculable. He broke with Victorian tradition about 1900 to create the Prairie Style, the origin of millions of modern American house designs. He brought Organic Architecture to fruition in the 1920s-30s, basing structures on natural forms and producing buildings -- like "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania and the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan -- that are at one with their outdoor environments. A brilliant designer of furniture, textiles, stained glass, and interior detail, he always presented his clients with a completely integrated concept, from the building itself right through to the light fixtures and the rug patterns.

Copeland Furniture is the exclusive licensee of Wright's furniture designs. Each piece of Frank Lloyd Wright® Furniture by Copeland is named after the house for which he designed it, and bears Wright’s signature, date of manufacture, and a unique serial number.

The Boynton Arm Chair has a story of rediscovery attached to it. The original chairs that Wright designed for the Boynton House in upper New York state, were never exactly built to his specifications, but rendered instead with a flat, near-vertical back plane. After researching Wright's drawings, Copeland specialists designed a process that would allow the architect's original, gracefully contoured back to be manufactured, resulting in a timelessly modern dining chair with all the quiet elegance and comfort that it was meant to have. The Boynton Arm Chair is an excellent match for the Dana-Thomas dining tables. The solid wood chair is entirely constructed in either quartersawn oak or cherry, using fine carpentry techniques and beautifully finished. The tailored cushion may be ordered in either fabric or leather in a wide range of colors.
